    About the Visa

What is a Work Visa to China

The Chinese Work Visa (Type Z) is for contract-based employment in China. It splits into two groups: short Z (up to 30 days — performers, concerts, short specific assignments) requires no conversion and allows remote submission; long Z (90+ days — categories A/B/C, models, engineers, IT) requires biometrics and converts to a work residence permit inside China. Z visas are always single-entry — they are an entry permit for subsequent residence permit conversion. The geographic city restriction (5–10 cities listed in the document package) is critical.

    Key requirements

    • Valid international passport (minimum 6 months)
    • Foreign Work Permit Notice issued by the Chinese employer
    • Employment contract between you and the employer

IMPORTANT RULE: HONG KONG & MACAU VOID SINGLE-ENTRY VISAS

Please remember that exiting mainland China into Hong Kong or Macau is legally treated as crossing an international border. If you hold a single-entry visa, exiting to Hong Kong immediately voids it, preventing you from returning to the mainland. For trips planning transits or side-visits to Hong Kong/Macau with a return to the mainland, you must apply for a Double-Entry or Multiple-Entry visa.

5 visa refusal causes & our expert solutions

    Cause 01

Employer-prepared Foreign Work Permit Notice has errors in client details or wrong Category A/B/C

    Our Solution

We audit employer documents before submission. When the employer prepares correctly, refusals don't occur. We coordinate with the Chinese side for corrections

    Cause 02

Working outside the cities listed in the document package (5–10 cities) — visa regime violation

    Our Solution

We explain the geographic restriction. If the role spans more locations, we ask the employer to expand the city list in the Work Permit

    Cause 03

Performer works at a venue not listed in the visa package (each concert needs a separate package)

    Our Solution

For performers on series of shows we prepare separate packages per engagement

    Cause 04

Diploma without apostille or with translation errors

    Our Solution

We coordinate apostille and translation. We verify translation against consulate requirements

    Cause 05

Using a short Z for work exceeding 30 days — leads to deportation and blacklist

    Our Solution

At the consultation stage we determine which work scenarios are covered by short Z vs require long Z

    Workflow

    Step-by-step application workflow

    1
    Step 01

    Coordination with the Chinese employer

The employer in China obtains the Foreign Work Permit Notice through local administration. This is the employer's domain — we do not take it on. We coordinate to ensure timely receipt of documents.

    2
    Step 02

    Client document preparation

Apostille of diploma and criminal record certificate in Ukraine (Hague Convention). Translation to Chinese. Medical examination per employer's request. Full package assembly.

    3
    Step 03

    Electronic submission (Stage 1)

We fill the COVA form, upload documents to the consulate website. Online review takes 2–5 business days.

    4
    Step 04

Short Z remote stamping · Long Z '1 day in Chișinău'

Short Z (no biometrics): you ship the passport via Nova Poshta, we handle stamping in Chișinău. Long Z (with biometrics): you fly in for 1 day to Chișinău, submit biometrics, return home on a second passport.

    5
    Step 05

    Residence Permit after arrival

For long Z — conversion to work residence permit within 30 days. Managed by the employer in China. For short Z — no conversion; you exit at the end of the term.

    Common DIY application mistakes

Ensure you avoid these critical paperwork issues to guarantee approval:

    • Trying to work in a city not listed in the Work Permit — deportation and 10-year ban
    • Expecting Z to grant the right to work anywhere in China — the visa is tied to specific 5–10 cities
    • For performers — using one package for a series of shows in different cities
    • Submitting a short Z for work exceeding 30 days — illegal work = deportation + 10-year ban
    • Missing the 30-day residence permit conversion deadline for long Z
    • Trying to obtain the Foreign Work Permit Notice without the Chinese employer's involvement

    Frequently Asked Questions

Short Z (up to 30 days) — for performers and short specific work, no residence permit conversion, no biometrics needed. Long Z (90+ days) — Categories A/B/C, biometrics mandatory, converts to a work residence permit.

A — top-tier specialists in narrow fields. B — categorized professionals (engineers, IT, teachers). C — baseline (models, performers on long-term contracts). The category determines what the employer asks of the client, not our price.

Exclusively the Chinese employer through local administration. We do not issue work permits — it's outside our scope. We help only with client documents (diploma, criminal record, medical exam) and visa submission.

Mandatory for long Z (90+ days) at the Moldovan consulate. Not required for short Z (≤30 days); remote submission is possible.

    $270 turnkey for all Z types (short and long A/B/C). Preparation-only service for self-submission — $150.

Z does NOT grant the right to work anywhere in China. The document package lists 5–10 permitted cities (for models and most long Z). Work outside the list = deportation. For performers on series of shows — separate package per engagement.

Z is always single — it's an entry permit for subsequent residence permit conversion. After conversion, entries/exits are unrestricted under the residence permit.

Path 1 (recommended): ask the employer to include children in the Work Permit — we open Z for client + visas for children in one submission. Path 2 (classic): after receiving the residence permit — S visas for family members.

For long Z with biometrics — you fly in to Chișinău for 1 day, submit biometrics, hand us the passport, return home on a second passport. We courier the finished passport to Ukraine. Real time in Moldova: 1 day, not a week.

For long Z — after conversion to work residence permit, extensions are processed via local administration without leaving the country. Managed by the employer.

The Chinese employer prepares the work permit; we handle the client documents (apostille, translation, submission). Always single-entry — after arrival it converts to a residence permit.
